The Ball Chair, also known as the Globe Chair, is one of the most iconic pieces of modern design. Despite its ultra-futuristic appearance, it was created in 1963 by Finnish designer Eero Aarnio, a visionary of space-age furniture. The design originated in 1962, when the Aarnio family had just moved into a new home and needed a large, comfortable, and elegant chair. Aarnio began by sketching a traditional armchair, but as he simplified the form, it evolved into a perfectly balanced sphere—a design revolution. To perfect the dimensions, Aarnio drew a life-sized outline on the wall. Sitting in front of it, he asked his wife to mark the height of his head, which determined the seat level. From there, the rest of the design naturally followed, defined by mathematical symmetry and ergonomic intuition. The Ball Chair is more than a seat—it’s a self-contained space, a design cocoon that offers acoustic privacy, visual shelter, and bold style. Available in a range of custom color combinations, it remains an unmistakable icon of modernist and pop design, perfect for luxury interiors, lounges, offices, and design-forward homes in Dubai, Doha, and beyond.
