Pierre Paulin, was a legendary designer. A son of art, his father was a sculpture maker and his uncle was a car designer (Bentley Rolls Royce and inventor of the convertible coupé). Pierre became a pupil of designer Maxime Old just after graduation. With such a training path, a great designer could only be born. In fact in 1953 he got a great success with the Salon des Arts Menagers, where he exhibited his first creations in the “Le Foyer Today”.
From that year on, Pierre invented a series of chairs and sofas, real masterpieces of the twentieth century. Here are some of his famous models: Muschroom n. 560, Tongue chair model n. 577, Ribbon chair model n. 582.
Pierre Paulin is the designer who could present the changes of the 60s and 70s with his eclectic and sculptural furnishings. Original and sinuous style of Pierre has influenced famous designers such as Olivier Morgue, who created the iconic red "Djin chair" for Airbone International in 1965, mentioned in the film "2001 a space odyssey".
The Pacha Lounge chairs and sofas, created in 1975 are an icon of Italian design with a harmonious seat and a revolutionary style, perfectly mixing the classic post-war austerity and new vigorous and modern approach. Paulin created a true elegance to the rounded shapes of the Gubi Lounge armchair by finding the perfect proportions with the special lines. An innovation and design present the space where comfort is combined with sinuous and rounded lines. It looks like a cloud in which you can sit with intimacy and comfort being close to the floor, just like on the seats of ancient Persia.
