The colonial design

A small quantity of people know that in India is situated a city where the famous Le Corbusier participated in the construction of some buildings, mentioned as UNESCO heritage. These buildings are true works of art.

In the region of Chandigarh, in Punjab, India, there is a city called Chandigarh City, the capital of the same region which was founded in 1953 by the British colonialists. It got a nickname "beautiful city" and was designed in the urban style by the great Le Corbusier.

Among the main buildings, there is the Chandigarh Capitol Complex. It includes three administrative buildings designed by the famous Le Corbusier.

He did care about every detail and gave the birth to the Capitol Complex Chair. The chair, that is a tribute to Pierre Jeannaret, stands for its original construction with Vienna straw seat. It truly follows the characteristic spirit of the place. Furthermore, it is well expressed in the use of local woods such as teak. The construction of a seat joins the legs creating a special design.

Its original style is well mixed with innovative design, presenting a perfect fusion of art and design. It creates a real symbiosis of an utility and comfort for the work chair. We can say that it is one of the first colonial design chairs.
